Karen Johnston Mooney's Obituary
Karen Johnston Mooney, age 59, of Covington, Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, after a long illness. She was born on May 9, 1967, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
She is survived by her loving husband, Michael Huey Mooney; sister, Kimberley Johnston Hogsett (Jeff); brother, Joshua Thomas Stricklin; stepson, Michael J. Mooney; Nephews Graham Hogsett and Grayson Stricklin; Nieces Brooke Hogsett, Bayleigh Stricklin and Madeline Stricklin, and many other extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Johnston and Kathryn Goodwin Stricklin.
Karen moved to Abita Springs at the age of 10 and spent the remainder of her life in the Covington/Abita Springs area. She graduated from Covington High School in 1985. Later, she graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Karen taught at various schools in Bogalusa and Tangipahoa Parish for many years, where she loved to influence the lives of countless students. She loved Louisiana Culture, especially Mardi Gras, and was a lifelong fan of the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, Louisiana, with visitation beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Abita Springs Cemetery.
