Julian Carruth's Obituary
Julian Reade Carruth, a retired Mortgage Banker, died Sunday, June 4, 2006 of heart failure at his home in Covington, LA., at the age of 86.
Devoted husband of Sidney Nicolle Carruth. Father of Julian Reade Carruth, Jr. of La Verne, CA; Susan Kennon Carruth of Hattiesburg, MS, and Mary Kent Carruth of Richmond, VA; Brother of Philip Lindsay Carruth of Covington; Grandfather of Siri Dyal Khalsa, Sat Kirtan Khalsa, David Carruth Hulett, and Kennon Hulett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Edward Carruth, Sr. and Roberta Beverly Kennon Carruth, two brothers, Luther Edward Carruth, Jr. and Walter Kent Carruth and a sister, Anna Carruth Simpson.
Born in Kentwood, LA, Mr. Carruth grew up in Ponchatoula. He attended LSU where he was in advanced ROTC. After graduation in 1940 he was commissioned in the US Army Field Artillery. Throughout World War II he served in the 33rd Infantry Division in Hawaii, Netherlands East Indies, and Philippine Islands, and later in Japan with the occupation forces. He was honorably discharged with the rank of major.
After serving in the Army during World War II, Mr. Carruth worked for mortgage banking firms throughout the state. In 1958 he organized his own company, Carruth Mortgage Corporation.
Mr. Carruth was a life long supporter of LSU and, along with his wife Sidney, was inducted into the LSU College of Business Hall of Distinction.
For many years Mr. Carruth was active in Gentilly Methodist Church and later in life he served on the Session of Oak Park Presbyterian Church where he generously shared his home and resources to benefit youth activities.
Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service at Christwood Retirement Home, 100 Christwood Blvd, Covington, LA, on Saturday, June 10, at 2:00 PM.
