Joyce Dupre Matherne's Obituary
Joyce Dupre Matherne passed away Friday, December 18, 2009 at her home in Mandeville, LA. She was born April 26, 1937 to the late Paul Ernest and Lucy Porche Dupre in Houma, LA and has been a resident of Mandeville since 1975.
The beloved wife of the late Lee Joseph Matherne, Sr., she is survived by one daughter: Penny Ann Matherne Dastugue (Quentin); three sons: Lee Joseph, Jr.(Margaret), Kenneth Lee and Michael Lawrence Matherne; three sisters: Iona Jean Colwart, Joan Ann Sevin, Judy Tabor and 11 grandchildren: Lee J., III, Chea M., Barry J., Maci A., Joseph T., Alayna L., Olivia K. and Christian M. Matherne, Kaitlin C., Margaux T. and Allison L. Dastugue. She was preceded in death by one son, Barry Joseph Matherne and her brother, Terry Paul Dupre.
Joyce pursued a career in the petroleum industry as a young woman. Working her way from an assistant to the president to acting president, chairman of the board and finally a consultant for Superior Casing Crews, Inc., she excelled when faced with challenges. Not just a day-to-day problem solver, she led and inspired the employees of the oil service and tool rental corporation to significant success. In addition to rearing four sons and one daughter, she was a member and past president of the Mandeville Republican Women, a dedicated parishioner at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and was a past president of the Forest Park Neighborhood Association. In 1992, Joyce graduated Summa Cum Laude from Loyola University. She received a Bachelor of Sciences Degree while being honored with a membership to the Alpha Sigma Nu and Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Societies, as well as the distinction of Outstanding Graduate of the Communication Sciences. Self-motivated and always enthusiastic, Joyce lived her life gracefully as an example for family and friends and was a leader in her community.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a funeral mass at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 21, 2009 from Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 325 Lafitte St., Mandeville, LA 70448.
Visiting hours at the church will begin at 1:00 PM.
Private committal rites will be held Tuesday at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery in Houma, LA.
