Joshua Miller Gamberi Jr.'s Obituary
Joshua “Miller” Gamberi, Jr. passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving parents, Joshua and Garyn Ball Gamberi, on March 18, 2024, at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans.
Our sweet Miller was way stronger than the world needed him to be. In his short time on Earth, he overcame respiratory distress, intubation, PJP pneumonia, two bone marrow transplants, VOD and COVID. He has both stumped and humbled many doctors. Miller helped them gain knowledge on Bare Lymphocyte Syndrome and advanced Stem Cell Therapies. He showed them all how resilient a baby can be. Miller is responsible for thousands signing up for Be the Match, along with hundreds of blood donations made in his name.
Born on March 21, 2022, Miller spent most of his short life in the hospital, but still had such a love for life. Even on his worst days, he still found a reason to smile. He loved Bluey, Mickey, farm animals and zoo animals. He even started to enjoy playing with medical supplies such as syringes, tubing, and stethoscopes, which were common in his every day care. We thought that we certainly had a future doctor on our hands. With the amount of time we spent at CHNOLA, it quickly became our “home away from home” where we had some of our best times and some of our worst times. Miller celebrated his first birthday at Children’s, but sadly lost his most recent battle against GVHD just days before his second birthday.
In addition to his adoring parents, Miller is survived by his grandparents, Joe “Papa” and Andree “Gigi” Gamberi, Rocky “Wocky” Ball and Jennifer “JenJen” Duhe; aunt Karsyn “KK” Ball and uncles Joey, Jamey (Shellee) and Jonathan (Katy) Gamberi; aunt Ashley and uncle Eli; great-grandmothers Jean Leckie and Jerrielynn Ball, as well as several cousins, other loving family and his two golden retrievers, Tucker and Scout.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life service on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at The Chapel at First Baptist Church Covington, 16054 Murphy Road, Covington, LA 70433. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:30am, with a service to follow. We ask that visitors wear their favorite color, as Miller loved everything bright and fun.
In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe has been set up to continue honoring Miller’s legacy for years to come. With these funds, a contribution will be made to the new Stem Cell Transplant Unit at CHNOLA, in Miller’s honor. Miller’s legacy will be carried on within that unit, which is responsible for the gift of extra time we had with our baby boy.
