Kay, I can't tell you how sad Joe's passing leaves me. He was a dear friend...even if we didn't see each other that oftem, the conversation just picked right back up where we left off. I could always count on that Birthday call which always brought a smile to my face. He will be missed by all.
We want to send our love and prayers to the Spain family at this time and wish you comfort and peace in the days ahead. Joe has been on our hearts and mind ever since we heard the news. It was a honor to have worked with him at Owens Corning and we feel blessed that he was in our lives for even a short time. God Bless and take good care!
I was saddened upon hearing of Joe's passing. I'm a better person for having worked with and learned from Joe. We are keeping you, your family and Joe in our prayers.
I knew Joe from my days at Owens Corning and it was always a delight to get to work with him. Honest and caring, he would always start out conversations by making sure the other person was comfortable and felt they were being valued.
Reading through the comments from his Sunday School pupils, I had a small chuckle, realizing that the same comments could have come from his co-workers. Joe taught us a lot about how to live, how to act and was a great role model for all of us. He will be sorely missed. You are in our prayers.

I had the pleasure of knowing Joe for a great many years working for OC. He made going to meetings in Toledo -- even in the winter - worthwhile (which is saying a lot!). What a warm, wonderful guy, with a great sense of humor. He loved his job, loved his family and friends and cared deeply about people. When I heard Joe was gone, I was at a complete loss for words. As he and I shared the stage as the emcees for retiring friends at OC, I, like Joe, am rarely at a loss for words -- heck, it was a challenge to see who could control the mike. While he gave so much, he certainly had much more to give. Kay, I offer you and your family my deepest sympathy.
I, like so many others, was blessed to have Joe as a Sunday School teacher in junior high and high school. He was a wonderful teacher who helped me to stay inquisitive about my faith and that it was alright to question things and to struggle with Bible passages. I was always happy to see Joe's smiling face on Sunday mornings and hear his enthusiastic greeting. He will be very much missed and I have been and will be thinking about the Spain family during this time. What an extraordinary man.

Kay, I was never so shocked as to see this on Facebook today and don't know what to say, nothing really really says it...but please note my heart goes out to you and your family, so sad just moving in your new home..I am speechless. Love Chris and Jim
