Joseph C. Robinson, Jr.'s Obituary
Joseph C. Robinson, Jr. was the third child born to the late Joseph, Sr. and Flora Alexander Robinson in Chicago, IL on May 11, 1943. One sister, Helen Holden and one brother, Edwin Robinson, Sr. also preceded him in death.
Joe met his future wife Joyce Johnson while she was visiting Chicago. They later were united in Holy Matrimony by the late Reverend Peter S. Atkins in Covington, LA. With this marriage, Joe assumed responsibility for her children and raised them as his own. They lived a short time in Chicago before eventually settling back in Covington.
Joe was introduced early to Christ in his father’s church. He rededicated his life to God under the direction of Pastor Clayton Neal and Reverend Mallery Callahan.
Joe was affectionately called “Chicago Joe” by his friends and never met a stranger he did not like. He was the type of man who succeeded in making you feel at home.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife of 30 years, Joyce Johnson Robinson of Covington; two sisters, Shirley Bowers (John) and Flora Hugghis (Eugene) both of Chicago; aunt Lydia Shannon and uncle J.D. Alexander both of West Helena, AK; seven children: Stanley, Bobby (Sheila) and James Barney, Leona Guyot (Dwight), all of Covington, Alva Thompson, Jr. (Faith) and Consuelo Dennis (Patrick) both of Big Branch, LA and Shirley Handy (Annias, Sr.) of Las Vegas; four sisters-in-law: China Coleman, Elizabeth Johnson and Irene Elliott (Mose), all of Covington, Gladys Jemison of Hattiesburg, MS and Weater Newton (Clarence); two brothers-in-law, Roosevelt Johnson of Hattiesburg and Lonnie Johnson of Covington. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
