Joseph Lamar Atkins' Obituary
Joseph Lamar Atkins passed away Friday, August 5, 2011. A life resident of Folsom, he was born May 20, 1935 to the late William F. and Lennie Mapes Atkins.
The beloved husband of Catherine Taffaro Atkins, he is survived by three daughters: Tanya Sue, Cindy Jo (Chris England) and Rhonda Renee; two step sons, Steve Moore (Dawn) and Brett Moore (Sharon); two brothers, Richard Atkins (Gayle) and Billy Atkins (Rita); 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Riley and Donald Ray Atkins.
Joe was a hard-working, compassionate man with many skills that he tirelessly shared with family and friends anytime he could be helpful. For 28 years he was a City Building Inspector, first in Covington before taking the position in Folsom. He was a building contractor and loved driving his dump truck for his landscaping business. He was also a dedicated life member of the Covington Lion’s Club.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Folsom, 13320 Broadway St. Folsom, LA 70437.
Visiting hours at the Church will begin Wednesday at 10:00 AM.
Interment at the Folsom First Baptist Church Cemetery will immediately follow services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Lion’s Club Camp, 292 L. Beauford Dr. Anacoco, LA 71403.
