John Waddy Tucker's Obituary
John Waddy Tucker, 73, died Saturday, June 16, 2007 at home after an extended illness.
He was born on Feb. 21, 1934 in Hammond, LA at his family home, which became the current restaurant Jacmel Inn. He moved to New Orleans as a child and attended Jesuit High School, where he was senior class president. He attended LSU, Baton Rouge, where he was a member of the DKE fraternity, and then graduated from Tulane Law School. He moved to Shreveport in 1959 where he practiced law, including work for the Legal Aid and a private practice. He worked with the underprivileged, including establishing the Satori House, a counseling house for disadvantaged children. In addition, he ran for District Judge. John Waddy was a member of the Elks Club, where he served as the past Louisiana President and past Exalted Ruler. He loved to play and teach bridge, achieved Life Master status and was a member and past president / board member of the American Contract Bridge League Unit 170. He also served as President of the Exchange Club, a member of the AOPA (Airplane Owners and Pilots Assoc.), and was a practicing member of the Catholic Church.
In 2006, he remarried and moved to Covington, LA. He loved life, his family and friends, classical music and was a loyal LSU and Saints football fan.
He is preceded in death by his father, Hebert deNelle Tucker and mother, Norma Mangin Tucker, his two brothers, Dr. Herbert Tucker and Dr. James Tucker, and his three sisters, Nell Harper, Mary Grace, and Catherine “Petesie” Morgan. He is survived by his wife, Kay Morse Tucker, of Covington, LA, two daughters, Mary Catherine Micka of Los Angeles, CA and Elizabeth deNelle Ordonez of Shreveport, two grandchildren, as well as numerous step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate a funeral mass on Tuesday, June 19 at 2:00 PM from the chapel at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433.
Visiting hours will begin at noon.
In lieu of flowers, masses preferred or donations can be made to the Heritage Scholarship Fund, Shreveport Elks Lodge 122, 310 E. Preston, Shreveport, LA 71105.
