John Law's Obituary
John Charles Law finished his earthly journey on Wednesday, February 12, 2009 from his residence at the age of 84.
He has been a resident of the Covington/Mandeville area for 38 years. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to the late Clarence G. and Leah H. Law and lived his growing up years in the southwestern town of Carnegie, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Lois Kaiser Law, daughters Kathryn DeLaitsch of Houston, Texas; Charlotte Villalba and husband Kevin of Doylestown, PA and Betsy Snyder and husband Glenn of San Rafael, CA. also a special cousin, Susan Pourciau and husband David of Baton Rouge. He was Grand John to six wonderful grandchildren, Beth San Miguel and husband Domingo of Baton Rouge, Mark DeLaitsch and wife Liz of Lincoln, RI, Lisa and Chad DeLaitsch of Houston, Tx. And Reid and Greydon Snyder of San Rafael, CA. Three great-grandchildren, Alaina, Alexis and Emma.
A veteran of WW II, he served in the Marshall and Mariana Islands with the U. S. Navy, Seabees, 110th battalion. Graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 1951 with a degree in Civil Engineering, he was always amazed that he finally graduated in 9 years after marriage and two children. Upon retiring from Chevron in 1986 after 35 years, he began a woodworking hobby. After a workshop had been built on his property, Lois was in shock that “tool toys” were a necessity. His signature comment was that he made terrible looking boards but great sawdust. His family continues to enjoy the furniture he made for them. He loved being teased that whatever Daddy made would withstand hurricane winds. One Christmas he built a Christmas tree from an 8’ sheet of plywood. He hung large red wooden apples on it with gold painted names of each family member. It was a struggle to brace this in the yard, but he made sure it would not come down. As more apples were added for marriages and births, he had to add a smaller tree for the great grandchildren. He also enjoyed golf, traveling and a weekly outing to “dine” at Wendy’s and then to WalMart with friend and neighbor, Jerry. He was a great story teller, usually embellishing the actual event in great detail. His family doesn’t believe this ability was passed on to any of them. He loved the Lord, life, family and friends. He will be missed.
