Dr. John “Johnny” Edward Allen Sr., D.D.S. passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025. He was born in Columbus, Texas on September 7, 1943. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Roberta Devoe Allen; his children, Matthew (Kim), Do Read Obituary
Dr. Allen was my dentist up into my college years. He was also my diving/swim coach in my younger years. He always had a smile and encouraging us all to do our best. He eventually had me try tennis with Devoe who was definitely better than me but we had a good laugh. He has touched so many lives and am thankful for such fond memories.
I think this is a picture of our CCC Metro League team, with Johnny the 4th from the left top row. Tennis at Covington Country Club was a staple of my childhood and that included playing many, many matches, fun and competitive with Johnny. He was such a graceful player too and it matched his personality. Poetry in motion. He will be sadly missed.

To this day I hate going to the dentist! But not when Johnny Allen was taking care of me. Non stop conversations about Tchfuncta swimming, golf,St Paul ,Covington High and Baylor basketball. What a nice man and personable man.RIP Johnny,
He was my childhood dentist and had the best laugh. I was also on the Tchefuncta Country Club swim team and always wished to win the coveted Johnny Allen Award for the most points won for the swimming season. I think that award might still be used today. God Speed Dr. Allen!
