John "Jack" W. Sanders , Sr.'s Obituary
John “Jack” W. Sanders, Sr. passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2014 in Covington, LA. He was born on June 29, 1922 in New Orleans, LA to the late Clarence W. and Etta B. Sanders.
Jack and his beloved wife of 66 years, Cora Lee Stewart Sanders, had three children, John W. Sanders, Jr. (Connie), Gary J. Sanders (Terri), and Cathy S. Cardinale (Melvin). He will be dearly missed by his eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Jack was the brother of the late Clarence W. Sanders, Jr. and Richard J. Sanders, Sr.
During World War II, Jack reached the rank of Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Army Air Corp serving as a B-17 Gunner in the Pacific Theater. During his service, he earned three Bronze Stars and a Silver Star. After returning to civilian life, Jack worked in the construction industry. He was a self-employed building contractor for 20 years and served as chief building inspector for Jefferson Parish for 10 years.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington, LA 70433, at 2:00 PM with Visitation from 12:00 Noon until service time.
