John Arla Hood's Obituary
John Arla Hood, age 66, passed into our Lord’s arms on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at the Balloon Fiesta Park in Albuquerque, NM.
He retired from the Volunteers of America as President of the VOA National Housing Corp as well as corporate Vice-President of the national office of Volunteers of America. He also served as Director of sheltered workshops for the homeless alcoholic men in Indianapolis, IN and Louisville, KY. During his retirement years he served on the Advisory Board of Community Housing Corp. of Minneapolis, MN. He was a lifetime member of the Gulf Coast Conservation Association and an avid fisherman.
He was a native of Hammond, LA and a resident of Covington, LA. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Bretz Hood, sons John Louis and David Lawrence Hood, grandson John Alan Hood and granddaughters Alexandra Marie and Kristen Angelle Hood and brother James Robin Hood.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service from E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc., 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 12:30 PM. Visitation from 10:00 AM until service time.
Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery, Hammond, LA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest a memorial offering be sent to either New Heights Therapeutic Riding, P.O. Box 1283, Folsom, LA 70437 or The Waybuilder’s Program, 216 24th Ave., Covington, LA 70433.
