John Letchford Dunlap's Obituary
John Letchford Dunlap, a retired welding foreman with Avondale Shipyards, and former Merchant Marine who served during World War II, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at the age of 84. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 15, 1923 to the late Claude B. and Marie A. Baldwin Dunlap and brother to the late Margarite, Claude and Harry Dunlap. When his father became ill his family came to Abita Springs for its healing waters hoping for a cure for his father and because of the beauty and his love for hunting and fishing, he decided to make Abita Springs his home for the remaining 72 years of his life.
He was the beloved husband by his first marriage to the late Carmen Puckett and also his second wife the late Edna Ann Wicker. He was the father of Darlene “Beetsie” Smith, (companion Joe Collette) Step-father to Donna Rhodes Cleland, Dr. Jimmie E. Cain, Jr., spouse Betty; Lu-Ann Cain Parks, spouse William M. “Billy” Parks, Jr.
Beloved Grandfather of Andrea Smith Lampo, spouse John; Step Grandfather of Carl “Chris” Cleland; Ann Walthall Booth, spouse Kevin and William M. “Billy” Parks, III and Great Grandfather to Brandon and Mason Lampo.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial service to be held on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home.
