John Henry Althans Jr.'s Obituary
John Henry Althans, Jr. passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024 in Covington, LA. He was born January 11, 1935 in New Orleans, LA to the late John Henry Althans, Sr. and Marie Ozora Madere Althans.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Gaynell Tobler Davis Althans, his daughter, Jane Althans and son, Kevin Althans. His late sister was Audrey Welman.
John was a proud Tarpon from Alcée Fortier High School, New Orleans. He put himself through Tulane University for undergraduate studies and later went to Louisiana State University for his Masters of Business Administration. In between he spent two years in the U.S. Army where he achieved the rank of captain while stationed in Stuttgart, West Germany.
John spent his professional career as a Certified Public Accountant and proudly held that license his entire life. He was a founding employee of McMoRan Oil & Gas company and later became a Vice President of the combined Freeport-McMoRan exploration company which he eventually retired from.
John was devoted, generous and possessed of a devilish wit. He will be remembered and missed with fierce fondness and love by those he touched.
A Celebration of John’s Life will be held on August 10th, 10:30am at Christwood Retirement Community, 100 Christwood Blvd, Covington, LA 70433, in the Premiere Building Garden Room. Reception to follow.
