Joe Dene Freeman, Jr.'s Obituary
Joe Dene Freeman Jr. at the age of 77 entered eternal rest peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, May 24, 2023, at his family home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Hobbs, New Mexico, on April 11, 1946, to Joe Dene Freeman Sr. and Christine Granville Freeman.
He is survived by his wife Linda Jean Johnson Freeman of 51 years, his adoring children Diedre Hall, Shannon Freeman Williams (Robert) and Tamara Freeman. Joe was the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Joe will be dearly missed by a host of brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful lifelong friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Joe Freeman Sr. and Christine Session, and recently sisters Ruth Session and Vernell June.
A native of Hobbs, New Mexico and proud resident of Covington Louisiana for over 38 years, Joe graduated from Hobbs High School in 1963. After high school Joe proudly joined the United States Navy and retired in 1985. He was a dedicated police officer first serving as a St. Tammany Parish Sheriff deputy, then with the Covington Police department for a total of 32 years in law enforcement.
Joe was passionate about politics and helping his community. His compassion led him to serve as a community activist, he was a member of several organizations. He was an author, having published 2 books and also had an established You Tube channel. He enjoyed being outdoors and working with his hands. However, his true passion was spending time with family and friends.
Joe was a caring person to all, he was respected and liked and will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. His can-do spirit and optimistic nature will remain in the memories of his cherished friends and family until they meet him again.
In lieu of a funeral an intimate family event will take place at a later date to celebrate his life and spread his ashes.
