Jocelyn Townsend's Obituary
Florine Jocelyn Townsend passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the age of 80. Loving mother of Guy T. Guynes (Ericka) and Delaine G. Gendusa (David). Daughter of the late Florine Ross Townsend and Allen Walter Townsend. Grandmother of Ross J. Gendusa, Carla Gendusa Mitchell, Isabella R. Guynes, Claire A. Guynes. Great-grandmother of Vincent A. Mitchell.
Jocelyn was a health educator at LSU Medical School. She served as administrator of health-related programs in Washington D.C. and Florida. She began her career as a nurse then completed her master’s degree in public health at UC Berkeley. She went on to receive a Ph.D in Health Sciences. She traveled to England, eastern Europe, and Moscow. Jocelyn loved her family, and had long standing friendships. Her adventurous spirit will be missed and will endure through the stories she lived.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial services on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, 2200 Rue Denise, Hammond, LA 70403 at 11:00 AM with visitation on Thursday from 10:00 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in memory of Ms. Townsend to be made to First United Methodist Church of Hammond.
