Joanne Jemison Gallinghouse's Obituary
Joanne Jemison Gallinghouse of Madisonville, LA passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2018. She was born on November 8, 1953 in New Orleans, LA to Edward F. Jemison and Rosalie Centanni Jemison.
Joanne is survived by her mother Rosalie C. Jemison and her brothers Michael A. Jemison (Becky) and Eddie Jemison (Laura). She is also survived by her nieces Terri Thornhill (godchild) and Daisy Jemison; her nephews Sean Jemison and Jasper Jemison (godchild); and a host of aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins who will miss her dearly.
Joanne is preceded in death by her husband Walter William Gallinghouse, Jr. and her father Edward F. Jemison.
A native of New Orleans, Ms. Gallinghouse attended Ferncrest School, and then graduated from Chapelle High School with honors. After graduating from high school, she went on to earn a bachelor's degree in psychology from Louisiana State University. Joanne later continued her education and earned a master’s degree in business from Southeastern University.
Joanne was the owner of Gallinghouse Marketing & Creative, publisher of Sophisticated Woman magazine and co-founder of the Three Rivers Art Festival.
Ms. Gallinghouse was active in business and community organizations, serving on the boards of the St. Tammany West Chamber of Commerce, the Youth Service Bureau, St. Tammany Economic Development Foundation, SLU Alumni Association, Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra Northshore Advisory Board, Habitat for Humanity St. Tammany West, the Covington Three Rivers Art Festival and others.
Ms. Gallinghouse was recognized as a New Orleans CityBusiness Woman of the Year in 2001. She was also named the St. Tammany Leadership Alumna of the Year in 2012.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 2:00 PM with visitation on Saturday beginning at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Joanne to be made to The Walter Gallinghouse, K5DSL, Scholarship Fund (http://www.arrl.org/the-arrl-foundation ) or honor her memory by having Masses said.
