Joan Brooks Myers' Obituary
Joan Brooks Myers, C.P.C.U., gracefully went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 3, 2014, at the age of 86.
Loving mother of the late Ray J. Black, III, and Diane B. Yorsch-Larson. Daughter of the late Mr. Victor Brooks and the late Mrs. Helen Guy Brooks, and sister of the late May Brooks of Newbury, Cotswold, England. Grandmother (“Mimi”) of Frederick E. Yorsch, Edward D. Black, Khristine Yorsch Aranda, Rayna Black, and Janis Black Groetsch. Great-grandmother of Rayel Aranda, Haley Groetsch, Keelee Aranda, Payton Groetsch, David Aranda, and Baby Boy Yorsch on the way.
A World War II bride of Newbury, Cotswold, England, Joan came to Louisiana in 1946 and lastly resided in Mandeville, La. Joan started her career as a secretary in the insurance industry. After learning the business, Joan successfully built Berkshire Insurance Agency in the greater New Orleans area with hard work, personal attention, and great determination. Joan achieved her C.P.C.U. designation from the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters. She was also a member of the Twelfth Night Chapter of the Daughters of the British Empire (DBE), the Mandeville Bridge Club at Beau Chene Country Club, and “Book Talk” book club.
Friends are invited to celebrate her life with her family on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at 10am at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 S. New Hampshire St., Covington, La., 70433.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in memory of Joan be made to your local church or your chapter of the American Cancer Society.
