Jo Angelo Angelo Martinez's Obituary
Jo Williams Angelo Martinez, 92, answered the Lord’s call home on Tuesday, November 22, 2011. She had lived with a slowly progressing Alzheimer’s and passed peacefully. Jo was born on December 17, 1918 in Daingerfield, TX, to the late Robert Levy Lee and Gertrude Sharp Williams. She has been a resident of Mandeville, Louisiana for 50 years.
Everyone who met Jo loved her; we feel utterly grateful for her life and the way she lived it. She inspired others to appreciate the beauty in a rose, the poetry in a moment, and the value of a close family.
Jo brought beauty to life in her vocation as a hairdresser and the owner of the first Looking Glass beauty salon on Carrolton Avenue in New Orleans and in her avocation as a writer and a gardener. She graciously volunteered her time to the St. Jude Women’s Organization.
The beloved wife of 25 years of the late Louis Angelo, she was later married to Michael Martinez who preceded her in death. Her sister, Frances W. Berkeley, also preceded her in death. She is survived by one sister, Marjorie W. Buse and eight nieces and nephews: Barbara Link, Sandra Vasquez, Mary Jane Angelo, Robert, Jr., Michael, David, Richard and Mark Buse. Thirteen great-nieces and nephews will deeply miss her.
Her family thanks her loving caregivers at Heritage Manor and St. Catherine’s Hospice.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 28, 2011 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave. Covington, LA 70433.
Visitation will begin Monday at 9:00 AM.
Interment at Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans will immediately follow mass.
