Jewel Hemphill Thompson's Obituary
Jewel Hemphill Thompson, at the age of 95, entered eternal rest peacefully early Sunday morning, January 1, 2023, at Heritage Manor of Mandeville surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Rochelle, Louisiana on June 3, 1927, to Grover Cleveland Hemphill and Pinky Lou Martin Hemphill.
“Judy” is survived by her loving children, David Edmond Thompson (Debra), Gregory Scott Thompson, and Judith Thompson Nettles (Wayne). Judy was the proud grandmother of Jeffery and Gina Thompson, Matthew and Jennifer Hill, Blake and Paige Thompson, Hillary and Michael Ambrosia, Olivia and Frank, Evan Thompson, Aaron and Erin Nettles, Jordan and Paola Nettles, Eli and Gracee Nettles, and Cameron Nettles, and 13 wonderful great grandchildren. Judy will be dearly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband Elzie Edmond Thompson, her loving parents Grover and Pinky Hemphill, and her 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
Before becoming her role as a outstanding homemaker, Judy did enjoy her various careers at MGM Studios in New Orleans, as a hand model, and hat designer. Judy was a devoted and active member of First Baptist of Covington for over 38 years.
Judy was loving, compassionate, and most of all a very caring person to all. She enjoyed spending time indoors eating candy and encouraging anyone around her to enjoy her Hershey’s kisses and Little Debbie cakes. She was dedicated to her role as Queen by wearing her tiara. However, her true passion was spending time with her loving family and friends. Judy was unique and irreplaceable, well respected and liked, and will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her jovial spirit and tender nature will remain in the many memories of her cherished friends and family until they meet her again.
The Thompson family expresses their deepest gratitude to the outstanding care provided by Heritage Manor of Mandeville and St. Catherine’s Hospice.
