Jessie Sharp Landry's Obituary
Jessie Sharp Landry passed away Sunday, October 30, 2011. She was born in Covington, LA on November 9, 1932 to the late James Nathan and Martha “Molly” Spell Sharp.
The beloved wife of Preston A. Landry, she is survived by four children: Carolyn Landry Maffettone (Don), Marcus Eric Landry, Sr. (Gerri), Diedre Landry McCarra (Rickey) and Christopher Martin Landry (Robyn); three sisters: Juanita Sharp Vidrine, Ann Sharp Chaisson, Martha Sharp Cooper Armond; her brother, James Leroy Sharp; 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Landry Mariche (Raymond) and five sisters: Clara S. Wager, Ethel S. Wager, Mary S. Jenkins, Agnes S. Waguespack and Lula Mae “Chick” Galloway.
A life long resident of the Lee Road Community, Jessie worked as the warehouse supervisor at Southeast Louisiana Hospital for 28 years until her retirement. She was a dedicated member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church where she helped organize a charity group that stitched diapers for needy families in Africa. They called themselves the “Golden Needle Stitchers” and Jessie was truly blessed and uplifted by their weekly meetings.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral services at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave. Covington, LA 70433.
Visiting hours will begin Wednesday at 10:00 AM.
Interment at the Pilgrim Rest Cemetery will immediately follow services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 20116 Highway 1081 Covington, LA 70435.
