Jerry "Texx" B. Galloway Jr.'s Obituary
Jerry B. Galloway Jr., know to many as Texx in Louisiana and Buddy in Texas passed away peacefully, February 26th, 2025 at the age of 68. He was born in Silsbee, TX on April 18, 1956.
Texx is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Jennifer Galloway; his daughter Bailey G. Roussel (Cameron), and his grandchild Paul Broughton Roussel. He is further survived by his sisters, Lisa Grissom (Lynn) and Stacey Galloway, as well as in-laws, J.C. and Lillie Willie, Jeanie Mizell (Jim), and Jody Crowe (Talbert). He is also survived by Aunt Sharron Gatch and numerous uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful, lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brittany Kay Galloway, his parents Jerry Sr. and Alice Galloway; and brother, Drew Galloway.
Growing up in Silsbee, Texas, Texx later earned a scholarship to Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA. While there, he earned a Master’s Degree in Education Administration. He also served as a Graduate Assistant coach to the Colonel’s football team.
Texx began his high school football coaching career at Thibodaux High School. He also coached a Thibodaux High team of outstanding athletes to win the 1984 State Track and Field meet. He later moved to the river parishes and coached at East St. John High. He served as principal at East St. John Elementary, West St. John High School, and again at East St. John Elementary, before retiring after 33 years of dedication to education.
Texx was a dedicated father, enjoying every minute spent with his daughter Bailey and late daughter Brittany. He loved cooking for the family. Texx loved his Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros but the Saints and LSU were his home state teams! While he still could, Texx enjoyed golf and fishing. Later in life, he spent lots of time on his grass-hopper cutting grass, as well as riding around the neighborhood with his loyal dog, Moose.
A very special thank you to the St. Tammany Parish Hospital employees who were with us each and every visit providing the best medical care, compassion, and the whole time, developing a special friendship with Texx, which will always be remembered by the family. Also, thank you to Tommy, Texx’s “bestest bud” and college roommate, for taking care of Moose during his stay at the hospital.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Texx may be made to Red Bluff Baptist Church, Folsom, LA.
