Jeanette Frances Wallenfang Istre's Obituary
Jeanette Frances Wallenfang Istre passed away on Monday, September 26, 2022 surrounded by family at her home in Covington, LA. She was born on June 18, 1935 in Iron Mountain, MI to the late David Wallenfang and Florence Ehlert Wallenfang.
Jeanette was the beloved wife of Clifton Oxford Istre, Jr for 64 years. She was the loving mother of John Charles Istre (Luanne), Barbara Jean Wickert, Jennifer Lynn Walker, and Jeremy Lee Istre. Jeanette was the proud grandmother of Lindsey Bell (Caleb), Jason Istre, and Mark Istre (Callie); great-grandmother of Isaac, Ben, and Ari Bell, and Hayes Istre. She was the sister of Glen “Butch” Wallenfang, Peter Wallenfang, and the late Barbara Wallenfang.
Jeanette was raised in Niagara, WI and moved to Childersburg, AL for her senior year of high school. She studied nursing at St. Vincent Hospital and at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she met her future husband, Clifton. Jeanette worked as a nurse until taking on her most important work as a caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Jeanette enjoyed traveling by motorcycle with her husband and also visiting with her extended family. She was an active member of the Ladies Bible Study Fellowship and was a member of Tammany Oaks Church of Christ. We are sad but rejoice that she is celebrating the beginning of Eternity with those she loves.
