Janice Marie Gonsoulin Gonzales Binnings' Obituary
Janice Marie Gonsoulin Gonzales Binnings, age 77, of Covington, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026. Born on January 15, 1949, in New Orleans, Louisiana, she was the wife of William “Bill” Harvey Perkins Binnings.
Hemingway might have said “The sun cried the day Janice Binnings closed her eyes”. More likely, the angels sang, for she had run her course.
Janice was an unquestioned anchor to her current family. She had an unmatched capacity for love and firm matriarchal determination. Janice was the first child of Armel “Mel” Gonsoulin (himself a direct descendant of the Gonsoulin brothers dispatched by Napoleon to survey the Louisiana territories during the Louisiana Purchase era), and his wife Claire Steigman, a truly talented Southern beauty.
Janice had three children with her first husband, George Adam Gonzales: Amy Marie Traylor, who with her husband Danny has a small village of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Janice’s great pleasure was to live long enough to have a relationship that her great great granddaughter will be able to recall. Following was George Adam Gonzales III, who with his wife Lisa has started a dynasty with two sons, both of whom are raising beautiful children. Janice’s third child, Michael Bernard Gonzales, with his wife Fiona, continues the seed with three outstanding young adult children.
Janice’s four siblings, Jeanette (Cary), Armel “AJ” III (Michelle), Leslie-deceased (Patrick), and Peggy (Leo) complete this generation so far, but stay tuned; they are a loving and active bunch.
In addition to the above, Janice and her husband Bill are counted among a group of brothers and sisters numbering more than nine and one-half million Jehovah’s Witnesses in 240 lands, all sharing and serving the same father, Jehovah God. While their grief at her loss is as painful and intense as to common man, they rejoice in the prospect of being reunited with their loved ones in the future. A Public Memorial Talk will be given for Janice on a date to be determined at the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall, 76394 LA 21, Covington, Louisiana, freely open to all who wish to attend.
All are invited to an evening wake and final viewing on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, Louisiana.
E. J. Fielding Funeral Home of Covington, Louisiana, is honored to be entrusted with the funeral arrangements. The Binnings family invites you to share thoughts, memories, and condolences by signing an online guestbook at https://www.ejfieldingfh.com.
