James Frances Roy Pfister's Obituary
James Frances Roy Pfister of Covington, LA passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018. He was born on May 16, 1930 in New Orleans, LA to the late William Edwin Pfister and Mary Margaret Burch.
Roy is survived by his children Judith Maureen Pfister, William Edwin Pfister II, and Erin Patricia Pfister and his grandson Zachary Pfister. He is also survived by his sister, Maureen; his wonderful in-laws, Bill and Mary Lynn Andrews, David and Susan Ridgeway and many terrific nieces and nephews.
Roy is preceded in death by his beloved wife Janet Shepherd Pfister; his son, Alvin Shepherd Pfister; his brothers, Jack and Wallace; his sister, Marilyn “Toosie” Allard, and his beloved father and mother-in-law, Alvin and Annette Shepherd.
To say that we’ve lost a great artist is true, but understated. Roy was first and foremost a family man, blessed by many loving relatives on both sides of the family. Along with his wife Janet, he forged his way through life drawing and painting the world on his own terms-a true impressionist. He and Janet raised four children and had four careers between them, all pursued with boundless energy and passion.
Roy’s accolades included dozens of art show awards including a national Pastel Society of America Best of Show award, a feature article in American Artist Magazine and many other local and regional awards too numerous to mention.
Roy was also a gifted singer, having performed at over 50 weddings, in numerous choruses, barber shop quartets, and even briefly as the lead singer in a band! Now he is singing to everyone in Heaven where he and Janet will live together forever.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 312 Lafitte Street, Mandeville, LA, 70448 on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 10:00 AM with visitation on Saturday at the church beginning at 9:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Roy to be made to St. Joseph’s Abbey and Seminary College, Dept. of Institutional Advancement 75376 River Road, St. Benedict, LA 70457, https://www.saintjosephabbey.com/donate/ .
