James Dave Miller Jr.'s Obituary
James Dave Miller, Jr., of Covington, LA passed away on Monday, March 9, 2020. He was born on August 3, 1930 in New Orleans, LA to James, Sr. and Selma (Peterson) Eakberg Miller.
James is survived by his children Charles Miller, Sr. (Debra) and Monica Silva (Ron); six grandchildren Charles Miller, Jr. (Samantha), Timothy Miller (Jessica), Amy Miller Jeanfreau (Ray), Mark Cancienne, James Cancienne and Jason Cancienne; and ten great-grandchildren Dillon Cancienne, Aubrey Miller, Victoria Miller, Charles Miller, III, Raelynn Wedge, Peyton Stowe, Pyper Stowe, R.J. Jeanfreau. Emery Miller, Mark Cancienne, III, Dakota Cancienne.
James is preceded in death by his beloved wife Yvonne Marie Miller; his son James “Jimmy Boy” Miller, III; his daughter Leah Szczepanski; and his granddaughter Shelley Leah Cancienne. He is also preceded in death by his siblings Josephine Eakberg, Mildred Wright and Bernice Cruso.
James was born in New Orleans, LA. At the young age of 14 he joined the Coast Guard during World War II. After the war, he met and married Yvonne Marie Guillotte. He then went to work at Avondale Shipyard for the next 25 years. After his retirement from Avondale, he opened and operated The Christian Print Shop in Kenner, LA, from which he printed and distributed over one million Gospel pamphlets. He dedicated the remainder of his life to distributing Gospel literature. James was a minister of the Gospel and devout Christian. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time with his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial services at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Ave, Covington, LA 70433 on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at 3:00 PM with visitation on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 PM. Services will be performed by Rev. Charles Miller.
