James "Jim" Thomas Jeffries' Obituary
James “Jim” Thomas Jeffries, at the age of 85, entered eternal rest peacefully on Saturday morning, May 13, 2023, at his family home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 6, 1937, to Charles Wayne Jeffries and Miriam Ruth Troup Jeffries.
He is survived by his adoring children Jonathan Wayne Jeffries and Jennifer Ruth Jeffries Clarke (Byron). Jim was the proud grandfather of Bradford James Clarke and Connor West Clarke. He was a caring sibling of Jo Suzanne McCandless, and proud uncle of Jennifer Emerick and Christopher McCandless. Jim will be dearly missed by a host of cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife Ruth “Dixie” Jeffries, son James Arthur Jeffries, and his parents Charles Wayne and Miriam Ruth Jeffries.
A native of Grand Rapids, long time resident of Algiers and proud resident of Covington for over 23 years. He received his bachelor’s degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology University and was a member of Sigma Chi. Jim was an outstanding and talented Geophysicist for Texaco Oil and Gas Company for 35 years. He was a devoted and active member to St. Timothy’s on the Northshore for 23 years. Jim coached soccer, baseball, softball, and football at Plantation Athletic Club. He was passionate about helping others and enjoyed volunteering for Habit for Humanity for many outstanding years.
Jim was loving, compassionate, and most of all a very caring person to all. He enjoyed spending time outdoors playing golf, tending to his rose garden and Destin beach vacations. However, his true passion was spending time with his loving family and friends. Jim was unique and irreplaceable, well respected and liked, and will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. His jovial spirit and tender nature will remain in the many memories of his cherished friends and family until they meet him again.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at St. Timothy on the Northshore, 335 Asbury Drive, Mandeville, Louisiana 70471, on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will take in St. Timothy Memorial Garden.
