James Lionel Hingle, Jr. passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2019 in Covington, LA, surrounded by his loving family and dear friends. He was born on November 8, 1940 in New Orleans, LA to the late James L. Hingle, Sr. and Rita Paulinus Dorvin Hingle.
Jim was the beloved husband of Metsy Gravois Hingle for over 40 years. He was the loving father of Catherine Mary Harrell (Steve), James Lionel Hingle, III (Julie), Christine Marie LaMourie (Paul), and Stephen Michael Hingle (Rebecca Strome). Jim was the proud grandfather of Victoria, Robert, and Christina Lehew; Caroline Hingle, Mark and Christopher Schwaiger; Samuel and Jacob LaMourie; Charlie Strome and Tess Hingle, and his four-legged baby, Bella. He was the brother of Thomas J. Hingle, Sr., Diane Hingle Anding, and the late Gerard Hingle, Sr. Jim will also be dearly missed by his beloved life-long friends, Fred Dummett, Jr., C. James Gelpi, and Eugene Grimaldi.
A life-long resident of Louisiana, Jim had a personality and love of life that encompassed all who met him. He believed in giving of his talent, time and treasure to his church, his community and those in need. He loved Mardi Gras, fishing, hunting, golfing and spending time outdoors. He was a loyal fan of the New Orleans Saints and LSU. Most of all, he cherished his family and friends.
Jim was a graduate of Loyola University of the South, where he received both an Accounting Degree and a Masters Degree in Business. He excelled in his career as a Master Chair for Vistage International, where his vast business and life experiences helped him mentor his Vistage team family. He was a sought after consultant and owner of Profit Hunters, Inc. He was also the former owner of Southern Building Supplies and Grimaldi Construction Company. He served as the CFO of White Enterprises, General Marine Leasing and COO of Malter International Company.
In addition to his many business accomplishments, Jim was one of the founders of the Alliance For Good Government in New Orleans and served on the Boards of the Alliance For Good Government, the New Orleans YMCA, the Exchange Club of West St. Tammany, The Fire District Board of St. Tammany, Tchefuncta Country Club, Flower Estates Homeowners Association, the Rotary Club of Mc Comb, Mississippi, St. Anselm Catholic Church’s Pastoral Council and the Knights of Columbus of St. Anselm’s Catholic Church. In addition, he was a staunch supporter of the Men of Manresa and attended more than forty retreats initially with his father and uncles and later with his sons, grandsons and long-time friends.
Jim was a born leader. He always claimed that he was the inspiration for the heroes in his wife’s romance novels and Metsy said he was always her biggest fan and supporter. Jim had a heart as big as the outdoors he loved and he never met a stranger. He made a lasting impression on anyone who was fortunate enough to know him or call him friend.
