James Markle Harwell's Obituary
James Markle “Jim” Harwell passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the age of 80. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Alice Ellis Harwell; his children, Cindy Paar (Steve), Mark Harwell (Julia), Keith Harwell (Noel), and Licy Gagnet (Spencer); and seven grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Pop Jim”: Megan, Trevor, Olivia, Bryant, Ellen, Wesley, and Ann Alice. His parents, Sam Romine Harwell and Helen McCurdy Harwell, his brother, Sam Romine Harwell, Jr. and his sister, Georgia Ann Sparks, preceded him in death.
Jim was born April 23, 1937 in Flomaton, Alabama and later moved to Chalmette, Louisiana where he lived for 44 years. After Hurricane Katrina he moved to Covington, Louisiana. Jim retired from Kaiser Aluminum after 27 years. He loved all sports, but especially golf, the New Orleans Saints and Alabama Crimson Tide football. After retirement, he enjoyed volunteering at the City Park and Covington Country Club golf courses. Jim will be dearly missed by his family and the many friends he met throughout the years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 29, 2018 at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433. Visitation will be Monday from 12:00 PM until service time. A private interment will be at a later date in his hometown of Flomaton.
