James Lagrange Griffin's Obituary
James Lagrange Griffin passed away on Friday, May 28, 2010.
Beloved and devoted husband of Gayle Hawkins Meisler Griffin. Step father of John D. Meisler, Jr. and the late Marguerite Meisler Keyes and James Martin Meisler; Father-in law of Cillen E. Meisler and George A. Keyes; also survived by 4 grandchildren: Michelle K. Soliman, Heather M. Keyes, J. Daniel Meisler, III and Alexandra R. Meisler. Son of the late Dr. James MacArthur Griffin and Olga Lagrange Griffin Ray.
A lifelong resident of New Orleans and Mandeville, Mr. Griffin served with the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was a retired regional sales representative with Dundee Mills, Inc. Mr. Griffin unselfishly gave back to the community he so loved. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church Ushers’ Society. He was Past President and active Board member of St. Tammany Historical Society, an AARP Driver’s Safety Program Instructor and a volunteer in numerous community activities. Mr. Griffin was the benefactor of the James L. Griffin Collection of the Tulane University Randolph Matas Medical Library. He was a graduate of St. Aloyusius High School and attended Tulane University. An avid antique car collector and enthusiast, Jim took the most pleasure in driving his perennial prize winning 1930 Packard while always looking to restore a new challenge. He was also a member of the Horseless Carriage Club and the Northlake A’s, and other antique car organizations. Jim was always the perfect gentleman possessing a wonderful sense of humor and a remarkably positive attitude. He loved the theater, fine restaurants, spending time with friends and sharing engaging stories of the colorful history of his New Orleans with eagerly awaiting family.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 West Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA 70471 on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 11:30 AM.
A wake will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433.
Visitation on Wednesday AT THE CHURCH will begin at 10:00 AM.
Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer Mass Offerings or donations to ones favorite charity.
