Miss Lanasa was my second grade teacher at St Rose in 1953(?). She had not yet married, and her fiancé, Mr Toca, would come to her classroom at the end of the day. He and I would sit in a corner and chat while she continued to teach until the final bell rang. At Eastertime, she gave me a baby duck, which I raised until it was fully grown and we released it in the pond next to the public library on Gentilly. That was 72 years ago, and I still think of her often. She was the most memorable teacher of my life!
