Jacquelyn Kay Moeller Lafitte's Obituary
On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, Jacquelyn Kay Moeller Lafitte, age 91, died peacefully at home in Covington, Louisiana. She was a long-time resident of New Orleans, Louisiana.
Jackie was born in Clayton, Missouri, on November 2, 1932, the second daughter of Alice and Edwin Moeller. Jackie grew up in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and graduated from Lake Charles High School where she was a member of the fast-marching dance team, the Kilties. Jackie attended Louisiana State University and received a B.A. degree in 1954. She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority where she served as the Treasurer and Secretary and Panhellenic Secretary. On April 9, 1955, Jackie married Gene Lafitte whom she met in 1952. Jackie's partnership during a 65-year marriage was instrumental in every personal and professional challenge and achievement throughout Gene's life and legal career. She was also his life-long best friend. She will be remembered for her character, rectitude, dignity, and decorousness, as well as her wonderful wit, sense of humor and the sparkle in her eyes. Jackie was truly a “Steel Magnolia.” She had three children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild who were the source of great joy and pride. Jackie loved life. She was an avid golfer and, while competitive, was more interested in the fellowship and the "usual" at the 19th hole. Jackie also was an enthusiastic Tiger fan, and she and Gene spent many weekends tailgating at LSU football games with Jackie’s older sister, Jean Moeller Davis, and Jean’s beloved husband, John F. “Jack” Davis, Jr.
Jackie will be dearly missed by her children, Lyn Nicodemus (Luis) and David Lafitte (Dawn); by her grandchildren, Ashlan Coffin, Allie Stegall (Jack), Caty Lafitte, Will Nicodemus, Emily Lafitte, and Isabel Nicodemus; and by her great grandchild, Conner Coffin.
Jackie was predeceased by her husband, Gene, her oldest son, Gene Jr., and her sister, Jean Moeller Davis.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 3:00 PM at St. Timothy on the Northshore, 335 Asbury Drive, Mandeville, Louisiana, with visitation beginning at 2:00 PM.
