Jacqueline Virginia "Jackie" Delaney's Obituary
Jacqueline Virginia “Jackie” Delaney, 93, passed away on February 7, 2023 in Mandeville, Louisiana. A native of Elmore County, Alabama, she was born on December 12, 1929 to Elmer Riley Taunton and Byrd Lee Darnell Taunton. She was married to James Franklin Delaney for 59 years until his death in 2016.
After graduating from Sylacauga High School in Sylacauga, Alabama, Jackie started her career with WVTM-TV in Birmingham, Alabama, working her way up to traffic director (producer) before leaving to spend time with her family. After moves to Huntsville, Alabama; Greensboro, North Carolina; and Kansas City, Missouri, the family relocated to New Orleans where she became the executive director of the Apartment Association of New Orleans and the Apartment Association of Louisiana for 20 years, being honored as the Executive Director of the Year for the state of Louisiana. Following their retirement to Mississippi Jackie and Jim helped build – literally and figuratively – the Diamondhead United Methodist Church, and later she was active with the Republican Women of Greater Picayune for many years.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Leigh and Randy Bridges of Mandeville, and her grandchildren, Ashleigh and James Bridges and his fiancé Savannah White. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; her sisters Annie Jean Taunton Turner, Sara Jo Taunton Hale, and Gloria Joyce Taunton McGinnis; and her brother Donald Tony Taunton.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 17 at St. Timothy on the North Shore, 335 Asbury Drive, Mandeville. Visitation will be from 10-11am, with services to begin at 11am. A private burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers the family would like to request donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of the donor’s choice, in Jackie’s name.
