J. Lee Dalferes, Jr.'s Obituary
J. Lee Dalferes, Jr., passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2011, at his home in Covington, La. at the age of 94. He was born July 8, 1916 in New Orleans to the late Joseph Lee, Sr. and Althea Fortier Dalferes.
The beloved husband of the late Mary Lee Lemann Dalferes for 67 years, he is survived by two sons, Joseph L., III “Dal” Dalferes (Linda) and James G. Dalferes; two daughters, Donna D. MacGregor (Bill) and Denise G. Dalferes; one sister, Ruth D. Kemp; seven grandchildren: Joseph, Craig (Jennifer), Gene and Thomas Dalferes, Molly, Cecile and Robert MacGregor; two great-grandsons, Charles and Joseph Dalferes. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy D. Gilmore and his brother, Charles F. Dalferes.
J. Lee was raised in Donaldsonville and spent part of his childhood in Puerto Rico. He graduated from Loyola University and served his country in WWII as a 1st lieutenant in the Counter Intelligence Corps. He was employed by Alcoa Steamship Company for 32 years and worked as a maritime traffic manager in New Orleans, Caracas, Mobile and Houston. He retired in 1976 with his family to Covington.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass at 3:00 PM on Monday, January 31, 2011 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433.
Visiting hours will begin Monday at 1:00 PM.
Interment at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens will follow mass.
