Ida Lopez Michelet's Obituary
Ida Lopez Michelet died on October 17th at St Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, LA. She was 93. Born in Honduras on September 5, 1914, she came to New Orleans at the age of eight and attended Sophie Wright School and was a member of the first graduating class of Eleanor McMain High School. She also graduated from F & T Comptometer School in New Orleans, where she learned to operate a widely used early business machine. She worked as a comptometer operator at Maison Blanche. In 1939, she married Howard Edward Michelet, a young army officer and ’38 West Point graduate from Metairie. They spent the next 30 years living all over the world, including assignments in Germany, Korea, the Panama Canal and in many different states across the US. Mrs. Michelet made each of her 28 moves an exciting adventure for her family. She was a true adventurer, always eager to see or do something new.
In 1969, she and Howard, now a newly retired brigadier general in the US Army, moved to Tacoma, Washington where they lived for 6 years. In 1976, they moved to Belleair, Florida, where they resided for nearly 25 years. Mrs. Michelet was an avid bridge player and enjoyed frequently entertaining her family and many friends. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and many civic and social organizations throughout her life. In 2000, she and her husband moved to Mandeville, Louisiana, to live near her daughter and son-in-law. Survivors include her daughters, Tina Pressler of Mandeville and Pamela Connor of Ormond Beach, FL; her beloved sons-in-law, Earl Pressler and Ed Connor; her grandchildren, Susan Kniebbe (Todd) of Debary, Florida, and Kathleen Crow (Stephen) of St Petersburg, FL, Dr. Marcus Pressler (Barbara) of Iowa City, Iowa, and Eric Pressler (Melissa) of New Orleans; and four great-grandchildren, Zackary Crow, Joshua Crow, Todd Kniebbe Jr., and Anders Pressler. Her funeral and Celebration of Life will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007 at 2:00 PM where she will be buried next to her beloved husband of 66 years, who recently predeceased her.
