My fondest memories of Hubert or that he was the kindest and most gentlest man I have ever met. Tell me Hubert was a gentle giant. He cared about everyone he tried to give us all a smile every day when I would see him he would smile he would ask about my family and my fondest memory is those great donuts he brought us at the beauty shop with a cup of coffee. If you needed anything Hubert was there to help he loved everyone and he will be missed and God has another angel in heaven now.
My most wonderful memory of Hubert was he was the kindest and most gentle man I had ever met. He loved his family dearly and they loved him. Hubert would do anything for his family and anyone else that he could help he was always there and always smiled when I saw him. I remember going to the beauty shop and Hubert always brought us coffee and donuts he made the best coffee and he would always ask about my children if they weren’t around because my daughter stayed at their house a lot he just made my day started out so good. Well God has another angel to watch over the girls now and Hubert you will never be forgotten.
Hubert was much loved by the Abita Springs Volunteer Firemen and he will be missed by those elders still here. Farewell my friend, you were one of God's angels before you ever left.
I was about 11 the first time (1959? Yikes) I met Hubert. Some big get-together at Betty and Huey's. I was pretty happy he and Dolores were finally able to marry after some trying times for both. Of course, no sooner was that a reality than Hubert was so horribly injured in that car accident on Chef Highway. That was the beginning of an altered life them, with dreams that had to be set aside. In spite of all the difficulty, a home was made, Hubert and Dolores raised their family, and all of us enjoyed their company for so many years. And throughout the years Hubert's inner force mystified us - the Eveready Bunny could have learned from his work ethic and discipline! One step at a time appeared to be his unspoken philosophy. And, yes, he was always ready with a fresh pot of coffee; and I do recall those donuts. I said recently that it sure would be nice to go back and soak up some of the good times. Yes it would.
