Hoyt Powell's Obituary
Hoyt Powell passed away on May 29, 2015 at the age 90. Hoyt was born on January 24, 1925 in New Orleans, LA and resided in Mandeville, LA. Hoyt is survived by beloved wife and life partner of 59 years, Jacqueline Poche Powell, loving daughters Erin Powell and Ilene Powell (Mark Armstrong) and granddaughter Cortney Amundson Hervias (Teddy Hervias). He was preceded in death by his brother, E. Reid Powell and his parents, Laura McGuinness Powell and Roy Powell. He was the grandson of Abner Powell, former owner of the New Orleans Pelicans and originator of baseball's rain check, ladies day and infield tarpaulins.
Hoyt Powell was a graduate of Warren Easton High School and Louisiana State University. Hoyt founded Louisiana Interiors, Inc., an office planning, design and furnishings’ business in 1962. After retirement in 1987, he continued working and consulting with interior design specialist, Rare Find Design Center of Covington, La. Hoyt was very well respected and a leader in his field
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 4th, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Tammany Parish Hospital Hospice program at 725 W. 11th Ave., Covington, LA 70433.
