Herbert Sherwood Kahl USMC Retired's Obituary
Herbert Sherwood Kahl, Captain, USMC Retired, age 93 of Bush, LA, peacefully entered eternal rest at his home on Thursday morning, April 27, 2023. He was born in Bogalusa, LA on February 24, 1930 to William Francis Kahl and Sophia Fauntleroy Kahl.
Herbert was the loving father of Cynthia Lynn (Jeffrey) Hages, Sheryl Marie Kahl, Jonathan Herbert (Patricia) Kahl, and Charlotte Ann Rutan and proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Charles (Jane “Jeannie”) Kahl, Clara Mae (the late J.W.) Kahl Rushing, James (Maxine) Kahl, Emily (the late Roland) Kahl Richardson, as well as his nieces, nephews, cousins, and many lifelong friends.
Herbert was preceded in death by his dearly loved wife of 72 years, Mary Eunice Watson Kahl. His parents William and Sophia Kahl, two infant sisters Elda Elaine Kahl and Ethel Eliza Kahl, his brothers Delos Floyd Kahl, William Clinton Kahl, Robert Harold Kahl, and two grandsons Nathan Boydston and Neal Boydston have also preceded him in death.
Herbert served his country for more than 24 years in the United States Marine Corps where he retired at the rank of Captain. He applied his expertise in traffic management throughout many tours of duty and received numerous meritorious awards for superior performance and good conduct. When his career with the USMC came to a close, he continued to work in similar capacities for St. Tammany Parish and Morgan Office Products.
He attended and graduated from Covington High School, class of 1948. Brother Herb said that he has attended Hebron Baptist Church since 1929, as this is where his mother went to church while she carried him before he was born. As a true servant of our Lord, he served the church as a Deacon Emeritus for many years. He loved doing all that he could for the church, community, and family. Herbert will be deeply and dearly missed by all.

Funeral services will be held at Hebron Baptist Church, 79614 Hwy 41, Bush, LA 70431on Monday, May 8, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with visitation starting at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow in Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery.
