Henry Elmer "Hank" Markel's Obituary
Henry “Hank” Elmer Markel, III passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018 at the age of 56 surrounded by his family.
Beloved son of Henry E. Markel, Jr. and Marilyn T. Markel, and brother of Marlene Markel. Henry graduated with honors from Brother Martin High School and attended the University of New Orleans. After UNO he tended bar at Benihana’s of Tokyo Restaurant and was known for entertaining the patrons. He later moved to Atlanta, GA where he served as head bartending instructor at Atlanta’s bartending school. He also was a travel agent specializing in the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Central America destinations. Years later he moved to Mandeville in order to be with his family. Henry was very involved in the Rescue Greyhound Association, Louisiana chapter. Besides his family, he leaves behind his precious greyhound, Shadow.
Friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:30 p.m. at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 W. Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA 70471. He will be interred following Mass in Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans, LA 70124. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Greyhound Pets of America LA & MS, 25 Pipes Loop, Covington, LA 70435.
