Henry Bishop Chalmers, Jr.'s Obituary
Henry Bishop Chalmers, Jr. died on Thursday, January 11, 2007. A native of Quogue, New York and long time resident of New Orleans, he had been a resident of Mandeville.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia Everet Silo Chalmers; six sons, Henry Bishop Chalmers, III, and Christopher Cameron Chalmers both of Mandeville, Gordon Gardiner Chalmers and Quentin Damian Chalmers both of New Orleans, Robert Lion Chalmers of Covington, and James Kimberly Chalmers of Bowling Green, KY; three daughters, Charlotte Theresa Chalmers Smithers of Mandeville, Wendy Estelle Chalmers Dickey of Tarpon Springs, FL and Stephanie Barat O’Rourke of Kent, CT; a sister, Faith Daiak of Falls Church, Va; 23 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Bishop Chalmers, Sr. and Josephine Gardiner Chalmers; and two brothers, Jim and Kim.
Mr. Chalmers attended Pawling Prep School in New York, Princeton University and The Texas State School of Mines. He received a certificate of Paralegal Studies at Tulane University and a BA in Sociology at University of New Orleans. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II at the rank of 1st Lieutenant with the 129th Army Air Force and continued in the Army Air Force Reserve for many years, retiring with the rank of Colonel. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service. In 1950, he was employed by Shell Oil Company in Oil Exploration for some 33 years. Mr. Chalmers enjoyed travel, sports and Jazz music. He especially loved his wife and children.
Funeral services will be private with interment following in New York.
