Helen Catherine Ross Brandt's Obituary
Helen Catherine “Kay” Ross Brandt passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer; she was 72.
Beloved daughter of Helen Schopp and the late Louis Dumser Ross, Mrs. Brandt was the loving mother of Mary B. (David) Mizell, John E. “Jeb” (Anne) Brandt, III, Laura B. (Lloyd) Alberts, Tina B. (Mark) Brantley and Joanna B. (Tyler) Case. She is also survived by her beautiful grandchildren Paige and Meg Mizell, David Mizell, Jr., Brian (Casey) Brandt, Joseph Alberts, Caroline Brantley, Helen and Julia Case and one brother, Louis D. Ross, Jr. Born in New Orleans;
Mrs. Brandt was a lifelong resident of Covington. She graduated from Covington High School, attended Louisiana State University and was employed by Prestressed Concrete Company in the late 1950’s. During her lifetime she was an active member of numerous civic and social organizations in Covington holding a variety of offices in each. Kay was a member of the Parent’s Clubs of Covington Elementary School, St. Peter School and St. Scholastica Academy; a member of the Covington Garden Club since 1960 and a charter member of the Krewe of Juno. Kay was also a dedicated parishioner of St. Peter Catholic Church. She was a member of the Steering Committee of St. Peter Parish Council, served on the Altar Society and was a weekly Adorer at the Adoration Chapel. In 2003 She received the Archdiocese of New Orleans Senior Citizen Award in honor of her commitment to her Parish. Mrs. Brandt was co-owner of Branco, Inc. and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Citizens Bank and Trust Company at the time of her death.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend Funeral Mass on Saturday, August 12, 2006 at 10:30 AM from St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 E. 19th Ave., Covington, LA 70433. Visiting hours will be from 6-9 PM, Friday, August 11, 2006 and Saturday from 9-10 AM both at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, Inc., 2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington, LA 70433. Interment will be at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington.
