I RECEIVED MY LAST OF MANY HAND WRITTEN LETTERS FROM OLE' 81 LAST FRIDAY. HE WROTE:
"Dear DG. Sorry I was not available for your phone call...I've had a difficult week- Drs., Hospitals, Scans, etc, etc,.
Sorry to hear about Joe Flynn-he was in my book a Decent Man.
Pls. stay in touch, and God Bless You.
No Tears, just smiles, and great memories.." " Ole'81"
I will miss his letters and his stories and the good times we spent together which I relished over a 47 year meaningful relationship. I was the young salesman in the la. territory {# 81"} before Gordon . I was fresh out of college in Wisconsin ,and sent to New Orleans to cover the sales territory while a replacement was found. I was later sent to a territory in Minnesota, #32.. And Sandra and Gordon started their career in Hospital sales with Will Ross inc. in the mid 60's..in The southern La. Territory #81 later to become 'OLE 81'
Will Ross was based in Milwaukee. Later, in the late 60's ,I became the National Product Manager for our White Knight hospital textile line , and that is when I first met Gordon Bitterwolf. and Sandra " Sweet Pea " And we started a friendship which covered most of our lives.. and a lot of memories..even when lsu consistently beat Wisconsin..He loved the tigers..
My introduction to' HIS' Cajun food restaurants, { loved it} fishing in the bayou swamps, [never again} swimming in the swamps, { never again} } digging for crawdads in the bayou{ never again}. Pascal Manales { loved it} Chickory coffe at Café Dumonde [loved it} Muffalettas and Po Boys in the French quarter { loved it }..
I will always remember making sales calls with gb..They were all amazing, including drinking dark hot Cajun coffee at some hospitals where they spooned hot water over the coffee grounds..He told me to drink it ,make no comments, and tell them the coffee was delicious. which I did.
Watching him sell was watching an artist at work. Well prepared focused goals on each call, casual good customer relationships, giving the customer good reasons to purchase.
He was a person who took great pride in his work. His customers loved him, and trusted him. In his sales career he was always at the top of every National award list.
The development of Bayou Uniforms started with his significant acquired knowledge of the Health Care Industry, and his great love for Health Care textiles, and Nurses Uniforms . Sandra was constantly by his side directing, coaxing, supporting..They were a team and the team worked well.. They built a great family. with a great deal of very hard work..and his children grew to become successful in the process. His religion and faith were important to him and his devotion to them gave him strength.
These are a few of my memories which I wanted to express.. and to also express my deepest sympathies to Sandra and the entire family.. In the last few months GB was always upbeat about his life and his family ..his deep faith constantly gave him strength, and we had many wonderful conversations. talking about the past..
I will miss you GB.. Thank you for being my friend..D.G.#32
I will close with your last words to me..

I've known your family for a very long time. Gordon was my boss at one time, a very long time ago. I'm sorry for your loss, but know that he touched so many people in a positive way and that each of you speak volumes for a wonderful family. Much love to you all, Meliss (Matranga) Batchen
