Gertrude "Cootie" Landry's Obituary
Gertrude “Cootie” Landry shared 81 joyous years filled with love and laughter with us here on earth and has joined her long missed children and heavenly family and friends on Sunday July 18, 2021.
Born April 30, 1940 into an amazing family with many siblings, she was remarkably close to each one of them which is a testament to her mother, Sadie Mae and her father, Stephen “Top” Landry. Her siblings: Sadie, Harold, Asher, Barney, Gene, Elaine, Ray, Dewey, James, Crystal, Floyd, and Stephen were cherished by her. Their spouses became sisters and brothers and we all shared an incredible bond that will continue for all our lifetimes. She loved her nieces and nephews and shared in their accomplishments and was the best cheer squad you could ever have hoped for. She grew up in Berwick, LA and called Covington, LA home for over 35 years.
Gert had six children of her own: Cathy Casebonne, Carl Lang, Kevin Lang (Renee), Clarence Lang, Jr., Claire Hingle (Roy), and Gail Anderson (Paul). With each marriage she welcomed our spouses with open arms, and with each grandchild she held she wrapped her loving arms around them they knew their Mawmaw loved them. As the family grew and great grandchildren joined the ranks we watched new life breathe into her because they were pure joy to her soul.
And while she has many grandchildren and great grandchildren it is important to acknowledge them because it was her reason for being. Her grandchildren: Brandon Casebonne, Brooke Torres (Chad), James Sewell ,Alyson Burke (Nick), Ainsley Anderson, Rachel Lang, Emmaleigh Anderson, Blake Sewell, Paige Sewell, Madison Hingle, Hilaree Hingle, and Catilyn Lang. Her great grandchildren: Riley Grace, Cooper, Kyleigh Anne, Logan, and Reece.
One can imagine the stories she had to tell during her lifetime and we enjoyed hearing them all along with the many lessons Cootie taught us. She taught us to love everyone, that love is unconditional, to do for others and that we are our brother’s keepers, and the most important is that family is first and to always be there for one another. We learned these lessons well mom; we had a great teacher who led by example and we will forever be grateful for your love.
She was known the world over and loved travel and spending time with the countless friends she made along her journey in life. Her door was always open and she loved people coming and going from her home any time of the day or night. Her countless friends will miss her dearly as much as family.
We are thankful for the life she shared with us and has given all she can to us on earth; we are thankful that she now will spend eternity with those who left us and she yearned to see again. Her legacy is large and she will forever live on through our memories.
