Gerard Mitchell Bennett's Obituary
Gerard Bennett passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2009. He was born October 31,1922 in New Orleans to the late Armand F. and Catherine Mitchell Bennett, was a resident of Little Rock, AR for over 35 years before moving to Covington in 2005.
The beloved husband of Hazel Salles Bennett, he is survived by three precious daughters and sons-in-law: Sandra and John O’ Neal, Pamela and Charley Fisher, and Candace and Trevor Watkins; seven grandchildren: Christopher (wife Victoria) and Johnny (wife Beverly) O’Neal, Shawn Hanscom, Patrick, Bennett and Catherine Bartley and Trevor Watkins, Jr.; three step-grandchildren: Melissa Dugger, Milly Barrios and Ben Fisher; Three great-grandchildren: Jack , Madeleine and Derek O’Neal and one sister, Lloralee Peterson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Bennett and four sisters: Maregina Bennett, Lorraine Fischer, Gloria Gandolfi and Stella Blassini.
A graduate of Warren Easton High School, he attended Tulane University. In Little Rock he worked for Monroe Auto Equipment Company for over 20 years before retiring as a Regional Sales Manager. He was a member of the Christ the King Men’s Club, and a lifetime member of the American Legion, and a past president of the Little Rock Lion’s Club. He served in the Pacific theatre in WWII as a Sargeant in the U.S. Army.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a memorial mass at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 E. 19th Ave., Covington, LA 70433.
Private committal rites will take place later at Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans.
