Georgia Bailey Luck Butts Cuddeback's Obituary
Georgia Bailey Luck Butts Cuddeback, of Folsom, LA, expired on Friday, August 18, 2006. She was born January 16, 1936 in Hillsboro, IL to the late Lester Earl and Cordelia Catherine Bailey Luck.
She attended the public schools of Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro Community High School.
She married Charles E. Butts in Decatur, IL; they had one daughter, Terri Lynn. After their divorce, Georgia married CPT U.S. Army Byron E. Cuddeback at Ft. Riley, KS. Their daughter Beth Ann was born at Ft. Riley.
A sister, Charlotte Earl Luebrecht, now deceased, resided in Missouri with her husband Clarence and their six children. Byron encouraged Georgia to return to college and she attended Kansas State, Colorado State and the University of Illinois-Urbana when Byron was in Vietnam or being transferred to different posts. She eventually earned her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois and became a licensed Psychologist.
Georgia was employed by the Decatur Mental Health Center and for 10 years served as an Associate Professor in the Southern Illinois University College of Medicine. She then entered into private practice and was successful for 15 years.
Georgia was very interested in serving the community that provided her with employment opportunities. For a number of years she sat on the Institutional Review Board, was Past President of the Board of Directors of Macon Resources, Inc., Past President of Progress Resources, Inc., Senior Citizens Board, Past Vice-President of Planned Parenthood Board of Decatur and Past President Professional Women's Network. Georgia was a member of the American Psychological Association, the Illinois Psychological Association and the Macon County Mental Health Association.
Her favorite activities were reading and traveling. Her most exciting trip was circling the Earth by plane, train, bus and boat. Another wonderful tour was a three-week bus trip following General Patton's route of march from the beaches of Normandy to Vienna with Byron's WW II unit.
Georgia is survived by her daughters, Terri Lynn Landry (Dave) of Folsom, LA and Beth Ann Hartmann (Carl) of Murphysboro, IL; three grandchildren: Joseph and Remi Landry and Derek Hartmann; six nieces and nephews and four step-children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Byron, her sister and one step-daughter.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend Funeral Services at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 from the Chapel at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, Inc., 2260 W. 21st Ave, Covington, LA 70433.
Visiting hours will begin at 9:00 am. Interment will follow services at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington, LA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of the U.S. or to Planned Parenthood of Decatur, IL.
