George B. Davis' Obituary
George B. Davis of Christwood Lane, Covington, LA died on Saturday, June 7, 2008. He was born May 20, 1923 in New Orleans to the late Bemiss N. and Hazel Pettit Davis and has been a resident of Covington since 1959.
The beloved husband of June McCarty Davis, he is survived by four sons, Eric N. Davis of Morrison, CO, Kent M. (Carty) Davis of Pinehurst, NC, Lee M. Davis of Lawrenceville, GA and George R. Davis of Hammond, LA. He is the brother of Helen Davis Morrison of Limon, CO, R. Lee Davis of Jackson, MS and the late A. Berkeley Davis of Jackson, MS; grandfather of Dillon, Brookes, Brandt, Madelyn, Piper, Parker, and Bryce Davis.
Mr. Davis was an Army Veteran of WW II. He served in the Combat Engineers in the 3rd Army as a Tech Sergeant.
After graduating from The Baylor School in Chattanooga, TN, he attended Tulane University where he graduated in 1948 with a BE degree in Civil Engineering. While at Tulane, he was a member of the Sigma Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
Mr. Davis retired as President of Broadmoor Corp. in 1986 and was past Vice-President of Boh Bros. Construction Co.
He was President of the Bayou Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC); he also served as their State President and on the National Board. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Louisiana Engineering Society.
Mr. Davis was an active member and Lay Reader at Christ Episcopal Church in Covington for 38 years. He was a Lay Eucharistic Minister, served numerous terms on the vestry, was Senior Warden of the parish on several occasions and was a past Deputy to the National Convention. Prior to moving to Covington, he was a member of Annunciation Episcopal Church where he served as past Senior Warden and a member of the vestry.
He was a founding member and past president of Tchefuncta Country Club and was a member of their first Board of Directors. He also served on the Board for the Solomon Episcopal Conference Center and the Salvation Army Advisory Board.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 3:00 PM, with a reception following, at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 S. New Hampshire St., Covington, LA 70433.
