George Wayne Core's Obituary
George Wayne Core passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024 at the age of 80. George was born in Madisonville, LA on October 30, 1944 to Estelle Galloway Core and Ulmer George Core. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Parker Core. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jerry Lynn Core.
A native and resident of Folsom, LA for 80 years, George graduated from Covington High School, in 1962. After high school he attended LSU and Southeastern College and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, graduating in 1967. He served in the Navy from 1967 to 1969 and remained on inactive duty until 1979. In 1972, he began his life long professional career as a medical technologist at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. After 39 years of diligent work, he deservingly retired in 2011. George spent the remaining 13 years of retirement with his wife and his 7 grandchildren, enjoying life in his own way, riding his golfcart and recalling the events of his life with family and friends. Throughout his life, George enjoyed golf, football, especially at Covington High, going out to eat and his many animals that he raised. His favorite past time was to plant, grow and eat from a garden and vacations with his grandkids.
George is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Parker Core, his 2 daughters: Joice (Jeremy) Core Holden and Estelle (Wesley) Core McCarty and his 7 grandchildren: Hayden McCarty, Grant McCarty, Liam McCarty, Daniel (Taylor) Luke Holden, Haley (Kobey) Holden Hughes, David (Tristen) Holden and Nathan Josiah Holden.
The Core family expresses their deepest gratitude to the outstanding care provided by STPH Hospice, especially Sandy Bodin, Amy Crosby and many others who assisted in his final days.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service at Fitzgerald Church, 80007 Fitzgerald Church Rd, Covington, LA 70435 on November 23, 2024. Visitation from 9:00-11:00am following a memorial service at 11:00am. Food and fellowship immediately following on the grounds.
