Genevieve "Ginny" Edna Galloway Durr's Obituary
Genevieve “Ginny” Edna Galloway Durr, age 67, of Covington, Louisiana, passed quietly and unexpectedly to her Heavenly Home on Sunday, April 5, 2026. She was born on September 14, 1958, in Covington, Louisiana.
She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Henry L. “Hank” Durr, Jr.; mother, Willie Mae Galloway; children, Jared Durr (Heather) and Henry Durr (Jennifer); grandchildren, Melody, Madelyn, Riley, and Macy Durr; and great-grandchildren, Brantin Glass and Rylan Compton. She is also survived by her siblings, Lynn G. Sharp (Donald) and Greg Galloway (Charlene); and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Julie Durr; and father, Pete Galloway.
Ginny was a native and lifelong resident of Covington, Louisiana, with a brief residency in Concord, North Carolina. She developed many friendships through both Bethlehem Baptist Church in Concord and New Zion Baptist Church in Covington which lasted throughout her lifetime. She served in various capacities at both churches, including as church organist and councilmember at New Zion. Her career as a schoolteacher in both St. Tammany and Tangipahoa Parishes afforded her the opportunity to influence the lives of many students and colleagues before her retirement. After her retirement, she led a full and busy life before her health became an issue. She treasured her memories from childhood as well as her many personal and professional relationships.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Durr may be made to the New Zion Baptist Church Building or Cemetery Funds at 17387 New Zion Church Road, Covington, Louisiana, 70435.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 1:00 PM at New Zion Baptist Church, 17387 New Zion Church Road, Covington, Louisiana, with visitation beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
