Gene W. Lafitte Jr.'s Obituary
Gene W. Lafitte, Jr., age 60, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018, the victim of a brain aneurysm. He was born in Lake Charles, LA to Gene W. Lafitte, Sr. and Jacquelyn Kay Moeller. Gene was reared in New Orleans, graduating from Isadore Newman School in 1975, where he achieved distinction scholastically and athletically on the basketball and golf teams. In 1975 he received recognition as the Most Valuable Player in basketball among small schools in the New Orleans metropolitan area. Gene attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and received his B.S. degree with honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 1979. His JD degree in law was awarded by the Paul M. Hebert Law Center of Louisiana State University in 1983. He received his M.B.A. from the European Institute of Business Administration (INSEAD – Fountainbleu, France) in 1987. During his legal career Gene was admitted to the practice in the courts of Louisiana, Texas, California, and the District of Columbia. He had a broad law practice background and also extensive business experience as head of corporate development and acquisitions for a publicly held company that provided technology services to the worldwide hotel industry. Gene was a caring, warm hearted gentleman always eager to reach out to anyone in need. His inquisitive and keen mind led him to accumulate a storehouse of knowledge about a variety of subjects. He knew a lot – not everything, but a lot – about many things, especially music and the creative arts. Perhaps the best that can be said of him is that while he walked God’s earth he loved and was loved. He is survived by his parents and sister Lyn Nicodemus, brother David E. Lafitte (Dawn), and numerous cousins and nieces and a nephew. Interment will be private.
