Gayle Periou Scheuermann's Obituary
Gayle Periou Scheuermann passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2022. She was born in Parks, LA on April 21, 1947, to Viva Broussard Periou and Thomas Joseph Periou.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Walter A. Scheuermann M.D.; her children; Christian Anthony Scheuermann M.D., (Aimee) Marie Therese Scheuermann (Paul), Rhonda Scheuermann Simmons (Christopher) and Walter Guy Scheuermann (Eileen); her grandchildren, Estelle, Madeline, Christopher, Lily, Eve, Christian, Madeline, Isabella and Emma Lucille; great-grandchildren, Ashton, Avery and Brooke. Brother, Thomas Periou; sister, Christina Periou Buillard and is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Viva Broussard Periou and Thomas Joseph Periou; brother Ernest Periou.
Gayle graduated from St. Bernard High School in Breaux Bridge. She graduated from USL, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, and graduated with a degree in Social Work. Following graduation, Gayle was an emergency room social worker at Charity Hospital where she met her husband Walter while he was doing his residency. Afterward they moved to Germany where she was the librarian in the Army hospital .
After her children were in school, Gayle obtained a law degree from Tulane Law School. She worked as a law clerk for 10 years as a research attorney for the state appellate court.
Gayle was a past president of the St. Tammany Parish Medical Auxiliary, and was a member of St. Paul’s Economic Development Committee. However, she was most involved with the St. Tammany Youth Service Bureau, where she served as president of the Corporate Board and chaired the Chef Soiree for many years.
In lieu of flowers kindly consider, memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Scheuermann to the Youth Service Bureau or Friends of the Library of West St. Tammany.
The family would like to thank the staff of Christwood, St. Tammany Parish Hospital, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and Notre Dame Hospice.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral services at St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 E. 19th Avenue, Covington Louisiana on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at 12:30 with visitation at church on Tuesday beginning at 10:30 AM.
Interment in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens will be private.
